In the cruel trials of the Inquisition, Giovanna d'Arco faced accusations of heresy with the fortitude of a saint. Although a monk believed he was sent by God, soldiers dragged him to a torture chamber. In the midst of despair, the image of the cross gave him comfort. Accused of being the devil's child, Giovanna refuses to renounce her faith—even in the face of a torture wheel that leaves her unconscious.
