Amidst the gloom of post-World War II Italy, Antonio Ricci finally got a simple job: putting up posters. However, the condition is that he must have a bicycle. When his bicycle is stolen, Antonio and his son travel around Rome, struggling to find the item that will determine their fate. They find the thief, but with no evidence, Antonio is forced to surrender. Without a bike, jobs are lost—and hope evaporates. Will they find a way out of this despair?
